2002-2004: a responsible company
2002: the three Genco and code of ethics - Enel completes the
divestiture of capacity provided by the Bersani Decree. This year has
substantially completed the process of reducing the size of Enel imposed by law
in the context of liberalization of the Italian electricity market and has
started the process of refocusing on the primary sector of activity,
energy, with the aim of grow and become the leading producer and distributor of
electricity and gas.
On 28 March 2002, the Enel Group shall devise a code of ethics expresses
the commitments and responsibilities in the conduct of business and corporate
activities undertaken by employees of Enel, whether directors or
employees.
2002: le tre Genco e il codice etico - Enel completa le dismissioni di capacità
produttiva previste dal decreto Bersani. In questo anno si è sostanzialmente
concluso il processo di riduzione delle dimensioni di Enel imposto per legge
nell’ambito della liberalizzazione del mercato elettrico italiano ed è stato
avviato il processo di rifocalizzazione sul settore preminente di attività,
l’energia, con l’obiettivo di crescere e diventare il principale produttore e
distributore di elettricità e gas.
Il 28 marzo 2002 il Gruppo Enel si dota di un codice etico che esprime gli
impegni e le responsabilità nella conduzione degli affari e delle attività
aziendali assunti dai collaboratori di Enel, siano essi amministratori o
dipendenti.
2003: Corporate Social Responsibility - During the year the action
plan promoted by Enel to support Corporate Social Responsibility continues.
Enel, which is already present in the FTSE4Good Global 100 (stock
exchange index of the top 100 companies in the world by market capitalization
that excel for their achievements and commitments in terms of sustainable
economic development), is admitted starting 22 September to the prestigious
list FTSE4Good Europe 50, the index of the top 50 European companies that
combine business with plans and principles of social and environmental
sustainability. Enel is the only public utility to be admitted.
In 2003, Enel also entered the Advanced Sustainable Performance Index, based on
assessments made by Vigeo, a French classification society.
2004: The Global Compact, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the
refocusing - In February 2004, Enel joins the UN Global Compact,
which is a program of action promoted by the United Nations in the human
rights, labor and environmental protection areas.
In 2004, Enel is included in the DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index)
World. The prestigious global stock market index lists companies that have
achieved excellence for having behaved in a responsible and sustainable way not
only from an economic and financial point of view, but also in relation to
respect for environment and society.
This was also the year in which the Group sold its of real estate
assets and exited the water sector, with the sale of 100% stake in
Enel Hydro Spa. The two transactions represent major steps forward in the
strategy of refocusing on electricity and gas sectors.
