Lorenzo Codogno

After studying at the University of Padua, Lorenzo Codogno continued his studies in the United States, where he earned a master’s degree in Finance at Syracuse University, in Syracuse, New York (1986-87).

He was formerly a deputy manager of Credito Italiano (now Unicredit), where he worked in the research department. Subsequently, from 1995 to 2006, he worked for Bank of America, first in Milan and from 1998 in London, where he held the position of managing director, senior economist and the co-head of economic analysis in Europe.

In 2006 he joined the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, where he is currently Director General in the Treasury Department and head of the Economic and Financial Analysis and Planning Directorate. This Directorate is in charge of macroeconomic forecasting, cyclical and structural analysis of the Italian and international economy, and analysis of monetary and financial issues.

From January 2010 to December 2011 he was chairman of the European Union’s Economic Policy Committee (a body of which he was deputy chairman from January 2008 to December 2009 and has been head of the Italian delegation since January 2012, after holding such position from May 2006 to December 2009), as well as to the OECD’s Economic Policy Committee and Working Party 1 (of which he has been deputy chairman since October 2007). Within the European Union’s Economic Policy Committee, he was chairman of the Lisbon Methodology Working Group from November 2006 to January 2010.

In addition, he is the author of numerous scientific publications and of articles in the specialised press. Before joining the Ministry, he has been economic commentator on the main international economic and financial networks.
He was a director of MTS (a company that manages markets for bond trading, now part of the London Stock Exchange group) from 1999 to 2003 and is currently a member of Comstat (the Committee for Directing and Co-ordinating Statistical Information of ISTAT) from December 2010, member of the scientific committee of the Masi Foundation (from April 2009) and member of the board of directors of University Foundation Economia Tor Vergata CEIS (from November 2009).

He has been a Director of Enel since June 2008.
