After graduating in Law with the highest grades from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1978, he began his professional career in the Abete publishing group as director in charge of the publishing area (1981) and chief executive officer of the ASCA press agency. He was a director of Ente Cinema (now Cinecittà Luce) from 1993 to 1996, as well as president of Cinecittà Multiplex, and a member of the board of directors of Rai from 1994 to 1996 and Acea from 2000 to 2002. In addition, he was a director with managerial duties of A.S. Roma from 1997 to 2000, as well as the chief executive officer of Rugby Roma from 1999 to 2000, Agenzia della Moda from 1998 to 2001, and Eur SpA from 2003 to 2009.
A former president of the FERPI (a public-relations association), the ICI (a corporate-communication association), and the National Rugby League, as well as chairman of the organizing committee of the Baseball World Cup 2009, he has also been vice-president of the European Rugby League.
He has been a member several times of the Governing Council of Communications at the Communications Ministry and a consultant of the AGCOM, with which he cooperated in preparing the frequency-allotment plan for digital terrestrial television.
He has held and currently holds important offices within the Confindustria system and is a director of Assoimmobiliare with managerial duties, as well as a member of the executive committees of the non-profit association “S.O.S. – il Telefono Azzurro onlus” and the San Matteo Foundation for the promotion of the social doctrine of the Catholic church and humanitarian work in less developed countries.
A lecturer on subjects regarding communication at the Universities of Catania (from 1999 to 2002) and “Roma Tre”, where he currently teaches Sociology of Communication, he also collaborates with other university communication departments, contributes to several periodicals as an expert in communication and marketing, and is the author of numerous publications in the field. He is currently a director of Sipra.
A director of Enel from May 2002 to May 2005, he has held this position again since May 2011.
