Coal
Coal is the second most used energy source after oil. It’s used to
cover over a quarter of the world’s demand of primary energy. In Europe, about
one third of produced electricity comes from the use of coal as a fossil fuel,
so that it plays a key role in the overall energy supply.
Coal, which is cheaper and more abundant than oil, has become a source of
sustainable energy thanks to technology advances that have led to a 60 to 80%
abatement of pollutant emissions compared to oil.
Enel takes the forefront in diversifying the energy mix, equipping
its plants with the most modern and advanced technologies for pollutants
emissions reduction. The introduction of clean coal technologies at the
Torrevaldaliga Nord plant in Civitavecchia is an example of this
approach.. With a total capacity of 1,980 MW, it’s the most advanced clean coal
plant in the world.
