Wind Power
Wind energy has the highest capacity and production growth rate out of all renewable sources. In Italy, where Enel manages 17 wind farms with a total capacity of 382 MW, it’s the fastest growing renewable source.
Likewise, we are constantly committed to protecting the natural and historical resources – including the landscape - of the countries where we operate. For this reason, plants’ design and construction closely follows a sustainable development and eco-friendly model, in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Within Europe, we mainly operate in the following countries:
- Spain and Portugal: 1,080 MW
- Greece: 134 MW
- France: 28 MW
In the rest of the world we are present in Latin America, with a total 42 MW and in the USA & Canada, with 406 MW*. Major projects in the USA regard the construction of a large 250 MW power plant in Smoky Hills (Kansas) and the installation of 21, 3 MW turbines in Snyder (Texas).
In Europe, offshore wind power is widely deployed by means of systems installed in open sea. After Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Ireland, continental leaders, Germany and Spain are also developing this industry. This is an essential turning point for offshore wind energy development in many other countries bordering the Mediterranean, like Italy.
