Since 2006 Enel has been working with ITEA in developing pressurized
oxy-combustion technology.
With this technology, the fuel is burned with oxygen instead of air,
producing a flue stream of CO2 and steam without
nitrogen. From this stream the CO2 is relatively easily
removed.
ITEA patented in Gioia del Colle (Bari, in the region of Puglia) an
innovative 5 MWt system for the oxygen combustion in various types of fuel, in
order to verify the extension of the project to coal.
