E-mobility Italy

The objective of E-mobility Italy is to support the diffusion of electric vehicles by providing cities with the adequate infrastructure to develop more sustainable urban mobility. In 2008 Enel and Daimler launched the project which involved 140 Smart Fortwo Electric Drives, vehicles that use lithium-ion batteries capable of covering 135 km, to meet the mobility needs of citizens in urban areas. The project, which was first implemented in Pisa, Rome and Milan, is now gradually reaching other cities in Italy.

Enel designed, developed and implemented a charging infrastructure  based on the experience acquired with the Telegestore® and remote control projects. Thanks to this experience the Group has  rapidly implemented a solution which is perfectly integrated into the electricity distribution grid. This way charges can be managed in  a dynamic and flexible manner. Also, energy generated from renewable sources can be better integrated.

Almost one hundred Enel charging stations are actually operating in private homes and garages (home stations) and hundreds of  charging points have been installed in cities, in public places with high vehicle density.
