In 2010 the European Commission issued a mandate to promote standard solutions for the measurement of electricity consumption in Europe. In the same year, based on the experience they had gained in Italy with the smart meter and in Spain with the Telegestión project, Enel Distribuzione, together with Endesa Distribución Electrica, founded Meters and More, an international non-profit Association.
The Association counts among its members electricity distribution system operators, meter manufacturers, ICT services suppliers, system integrators, research and certification bodies. Meters and More provides its members with the opportunity to use, and contribute to the evolution of Enel’s communication protocol, which promotes the bidirectional exchange of data between electronic meters and the central system. This initiative aims to support the elaboration of standard solutions for the smart management of smart meters.
Presently Meters and More has 33 members from all over the world, including electricity distribution system operators, meter manufacturers and system integrators, as well as research and certification bodies. showing the big interest in the organization from the energy industry's major players.
