The Baseball World Championship to be held in Italy
Our country hosts the finals of the most popular sport in the States. Until
September 27th, with the support of Enel
The city of Rome will host the baseball village, in the coming days. It will
be a temporary play area to launch in Italy one of the most popular disciplines
in the U.S., during the final stage of the 2009 Baseball World Championship
that will be held in Italy until September 27th, with the support of Enel.
The Baseball World Championship 2009 will be held from September 7th to
27th. For the first time in its history, the World Championships will not be
hosted by a single nation but by an entire continent (in 7 different European
countries) and will count, for the first time, 22 participating nations, a
record.
The first phase will involve 20 teams divided into 5 groups, each of which
will be played in a different country. In the second phase the teams that
passed the qualifying stages, plus Italy and the Netherlands which hosted the 2
qualifying stages, will all compete. There will also be a third phase played in
Italy, which will conclude with the final for the title. The Italian-American
Mike Piazza, of the myths of baseball, will be the special testimonial
presented by the organizing committee and by the Province of Rome.
The baseball World Championship will look like a green event, according to
the parameters set by the European Union, and in all the stadiums involved 50
thousand bulbs will be distributed to sensitize people on energy saving.
