Enel launches major power network modernization plan in Romania
The works will be finalized in six months and will involve the installment
of two new sub-stations
Enel inaugurated in Bucharest the first working site for the power network
modernization works, regarding the "Enel New Solutions" project,
the most significant and comprehensive investment programme for power grid
improvement ever implemented in Romania.
The programme was launched following the high number of interruptions
reported in the last two years, due to obsolete grid infrastructures. The works
will be finalized in six months and will involve the installment of two new
sub-stations, besides the five already existing ones, the modernization of
distribution containers and the replacement of the entire low voltage grid in
the area, which is as old as 40 years. All the works will result in a 40%
capacity increase in the area and considerable reductions in the number of
outages. The programme will benefit about 5,000 household consumers.
"Thanks to this programme, all Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu residents
will finally enjoy a power infrastructure fully in line with EU standards. We
are fully aware of the problems created by this obsolete network and this is
the reason why we are focusing all our efforts and investments in this
direction. We will actually replace old technologies from the '50s and the '60s
with the most advanced technologies available in Europe at the moment",
stated Claudio Zito, Head of Enel Romania.
Enel is investing over 700 million euros in the Romanian power network over
the next five years, an amount which significantly exceeds the annual level of
investments implemented in the Muntenia region prior to privatization. The
works will be performed on all voltage levels - high, average and low - and
will provide for the complete replacement of the infrastructure, modernization
of energy stations and substations as well as introduction of the remote
control technology "Telecontrol".
