Best foreign investor in Romania
Enel won the Nine O'Clock newspaper award
Enel won the Prize "Foreign Investor of the Year 2009" as the best
foreign investor in Romania: the Nine O'Clock newspaper award was
delivered during a gala event held in Bucharest. The event was attended by
former Romanian President, Emil Constantinescu, along with several heads of
diplomatic missions of France, Slovakia and Qatar in Bucharest, as well as
Papal Nuncio Francisco Javier Lozano and representatives from business and
banking.
Claudio Zito, Country Manager and President of Enel Romania, received the
award, granted specifically for Enel's investment programme in this country,
which foresees 700 million euros over five years, aimed at modernizing and
improving electricity distribution networks in all three regions in which Enel
is present through various companies. Since 2005, Enel has held a 51% stake in
the two Romanian distribution companies Enel Distributie Banat and Enel
Distributie Dobrogea, which supply power to 1.5 million customers. Following
the acquisition of Electrica Muntenia Sud - the electricity distribution
company operating in the area of Bucharest - which was completed in June 2008,
Enel has doubled its customers in the country, now around 2.6 million.
Mr. Zito dedicated the award to Enel Romania's 5,000 employees, who are
committed to carrying out development projects in this country: "We are
doing our best to improve local infrastructure in Romania. We are completely
dedicated to this project and don't have the slightest intention of settling
for what has already been done in this direction, because there is still much
to be done to reach the goal of a more efficient network", said the
President of Enel Romania.
