On October 5, 2010, A Roadmap for Industry-Academia collaboration towards sustainability, organized by the United Nations University, will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The round table debate that will take place in the afternoon will involve representatives of leading institutions, including Giulio Lo Iacono, CSR Manager of Enel, which for the 7th consecutive year has been included in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability STOXX Index and the World of Dow Jones Index. The latter index includes just 10% of the 2,500 largest companies in the world, those that top the rankings for sustainability.
The International Conference on Sustainability Science held last June in Rome, Italy, helped rouse the industry’s interest. As a consequence of the event, leading institutions promoted businesses’ active participation and a better understanding of Sustainability Science.
The goal of this year’s workshop is to create a forum that will broaden the scope of the different academic approaches to Sustainability Science by joining the activity of the industrial and academic sectors. Three leading international universities will participate in the event: the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, the Arizona State University and the University of Tokyo.
The event will include debates on methods regarding the development of a new framework design for the integration and teaching of Sustainability Science, also aimed at improving the areas of welfare and human development in the twenty-first century. The goal is to achieve a shared global vision of sustainability.
