Human Rights
With regard to the defense of human rights, Enel avoids any kind of discrimination based on age, gender, sexual preferences, health, race, nationality, political opinions or beliefs.
It guarantees the physical and moral integrity of its employees, working conditions that respect individual dignity, rules for well-mannered behavior, and safe and healthy work environments. Furthermore, it ensures that the work environment does not permit intimidation, bullying, stalking or tolerate demands
or threats aimed at inducing people to act against the law or the aforesaid Code of Ethics or in ways that offend any individual’s moral and personal convictions.
Contracts with suppliers must include contractual clauses regarding the application of the Code of Ethics and principles of the Legislative Decree 231.
These clauses reguard:
1. Child labor
Enel pledges not to employ in the process of operations, either directly or indirectly, any person younger than the minimum age established by the legislation in force in the country in which the operations are to be carried out forced labor.
2. Forced labour
Enel pledges not to use any kind of forced or compulsory labor, labor performed by persons under the threat of any kind of punishment, who have not spontaneously volunteered. It is forbidden to ask employees to ‘deposit’ money or documents proving their identity when they begin their employment for the purpose of retaining them against their will.
3. Non discrimination
Legal actions regarding alleged violations of these rights have not been undertaken in 2006-2007-2008
All employees, business affiliated companies or subsidiaries and major suppliers of the Group are bound to follow a conduct in line with the general principles expressed in the Code of Ethics. That is why there is a specific Enel SpA Audit Department, with the task of monitoring implementation and compliance with the Code of Ethics and to investigate reports of violations and to assess associated risks.
The management of reports of alleged breaches of ethics and of corporate fraud is regulated by a specific policy that emphasizes that everyone playing a role as a leader or coordinator of resources must be an example with his behavior. He must also provide leadership and guidance in accordance with the guidelines contained in the Code of Ethics and Plan of zero tolerance to corruption.
The requirement that every violation of the Code of Ethics and other regulations of reference must be promptly brought to the Enel SpA Audit function to be verified.
