The United Nations have stated since 2011 and reaffirmed in June 2014 the need to face the problem of access to electricity by launching Sustainable Energy for All and the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All. A challenge that Enel has met and supports through the ENabling ELectricity CSR programme. Launched in 2011, it planned to double the amount of its beneficiaries by 2014. Nevertheless, this target was already achieved in 2013, with more than 2.3 million people who can use electricity thanks to Enel.
ENabling ELectricity is implementing more than 30 projects in 20 countries, taking action in three fields:
- technological and infrastructural access
- abating economic barriers,
- investments in capacity building.
