The progressive deployment of internationally-recognized environmental management systems (EMSs) in all the activities of the Group (industrial, planning, coordination, services, etc.) represents a strategic target of Enel’s environmental policy.
In 2012 Enel obtained the Group ISO 14001 certification. In order to achieve strategic goal of its environmental policy an Environmental Management System (EMS), which connects, coordinates and harmonises the EMSs Group-wide, was created. This new EMS establishes guidelines and minimum requirements that must be met, which will ensure the correct and uniform application of the Group's environmental policy.
Currently more than 93 percent of net efficient capacity and 95 percent of its networks is covered by the ISO 14001 certification, while all services and real estate management of about 1,000 buildings management are 100% covered, alongside all activities in the Italian and Romanian markets. Enel Green Power's new plants in Europe and Latin America and the thermoelectric power plant in Porto Empedocle have the highest degree of coverage.
