Relations with Stakeholders

In the national and international context, social, environmental and economic expectations towards businesses are constantly growing.

Having become a relevant company in the countries in which it operates, the reinforcement of Enel’s institutional scope is significant to consolidate the perception – by institutional stakeholders – of the strategic role that it plays by generating and representing value.

In this sense, Enel has adjusted to the growing complexity of the competitive scenario. Indeed, it strengthened relations with local, national, European and international institutions, aimed at participating in the decision-making process both because of its specific interests and as an operator having experience in the energy sector.

Indeed, the constant dialogue with institutions is aimed at raising the necessary awareness in public decision-makers regarding major corporate issues, by means of three main instruments:

  1. strengthening relations  established over the previous years with participants in the law-making and executive processes
  2. gradually extending the network of contacts, by starting relations entailing trust and working directly with parties who were not as close
  3. complete and transparent information that will help increase the technical knowledge of institutional stakeholders

Relations with institutional representatives are developed at different levels.

  • At the national level, Enel has established a fruitful dialogue with the relevant institutions, for example in Italy with the ministries of the Environment, Economic development, Regional affairs and EU policies. As well as with members of parliamentary commissions involved in decision-making processes regarding major corporate issues, such as energy planning, energy efficiency, renewable promotion, climate change strategies and environmental protection.
  • At the European level, Enel is active in EU debates and participates in decision-making processes at the European Commission, European Parliament, European Council and permanent national offices at the European Union.
  • At the global level, Enel works with nongovernmental organizations and with multilateral banks for development. It also actively participates in major sector associations and in several global forums that discuss energy and environmental issues. Analyses originating from the latter (including Business Europe, Eurelectric, e8, International Emissions Trading Association, UNFCCC, IEA) provide significant benchmarks and assessment criteria to institutional decision-makers on present and future trends in the energy sector.
