Renewables & Enel Green Power

Enel plays a central role in renewable operations at a global level. Indeed, the company is aware that they are strategically essential  to reduce CO2 emissions while promoting secure energy supplies and  competitive production.

Hydro, geothermal, wind, photovoltaics, biomass and solar thermal are the main technologies on which Enel is investing in order to maintain its position as a leader in this sector.

Enel has concentrated its activities aimed at developing and operating new renewable plants in Enel Green Power. The latter has a net efficiency of over 6,000 MW in Europe and in the Americas, allowing it to produce more than 20 billion kWh in 2010. The Company plays a leading role worldwide due to its diversifiedtechnological mix distributed at a global level. It is also planning to consolidate its front position by applying an ambitious investment programme and also thanks to a pipelineof projects allowing it to double its net efficient capacity by 2014.

In 2010 it increased its net efficient capacity by more than 390 MW after putting into service wind farms in Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, Romania and Spain, as well as hydro plant in Latin America, Greece and Spain, photovoltaic systems in Italy and Greece, geothermal facilities in Italy and thermal and biomass plants in Spain.

Worldwide, presently Enel manages renewable plants with a net efficient capacity of more than 34,000 MW. The latter account for about 36% of the Group’s total electricity capacity. Approximately 87 billion kWh from renewable sources have been produced at these plants in 2010, saving CO2 emissions for more than 60 million tons.
