Environmental performance

Enel aims at reaching even more ambitious environmental performances, extending high standards to suppliers, contractors and all the companies of the Group.

Enel’s most significant  local impacts and  interactions originate from electricity (especially thermal) generation. The Sustainability Report also considers other activities performed by Enel worldwide and collects information allowing to globally illustrate their environmental characteristics. The Report is based  on the qualitative and quantitative information on the environmental performance in accordance with the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines & Electric Utility Sector Supplement issued in 2009 by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The information contained in the Report are divided in four parts, each containing absolute data and specific information that describe the performances, which regard:

  1. Information on the scenario;
  2. Consumed resources;
  3. Processes and products;
  4. Emissions, waste water and waste

The following results are contained in the 2010 Environmental Report

In 2010, renewable electricity generation expressed as share of total electricity production was higher than in rest of five-year period (30%).

The trend shows a reduction of indicators regarding SO2 and CO2. Total SO2 and CO2 specific emissions are lower than in rest of five-year period, reaching respectively 389 g/kWh and 0,96 g/kWh.
