Environmental report

The Annual Environmental Report, published by Enel since 1996, describes yearly initiatives and results achieved by the company's environmental policy, also comparing them with the previous 5 years.
In particular, it examines all activities held in the world like manufacturing, distribution and marketing activities concerning electricity, natural gas, mining and quarrying.
The document is therefore an opportunity to review the Company ‘s activities and it is a useful tool to achieve more ambitious and qualifying goals.
The methodology for the collection is based on principles and guidelines provided by the Enrico Mattei Foundation. Since 2007 the indications provided by GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) are taken into consideration. Technical definitions are taken from the publications of UNIPEDE (International Union of Manufacturers and Distributors of Electricity).

2009 Environemntal Report

Enel actively contributes to the struggle against global climate change.
In 2009, renewable and nuclear sources accounted for more than 40% of Enel’s generation and displaced roughly 100 million tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, equal to the emissions from about 60 million cars.
Enel actively contributes to the struggle against global climate change, which was discussed, among others, in the recent Copenhagen Conference. In 2009, we slashed CO2 emissions per kWh generated by over 5% on 2008 and we confirmed our leadership in the Clean Development Mechanism, introduced by the Kyoto Protocol.
