Goals and results
To develop sustainable, affordable and accessible energy, to grow responsibly in respecting the environment and to guarantee a better future for later generations. These are the goals that Enel aims to reach in order to respect all stakeholders, balancing the economic, social and the environmental variables.
These commitments are ambitious but affordable for the Group: continue to generate and distribute value on the energy market at an international level, for the benefit of customers’ needs, of shareholders’ investment, of competitiveness in countries where it operates and of the expectation of all its staff members. Also, consolidation and integration, future plans focus on maintaining the leading market position, continuing to integrate and consolidate the companies acquired; pursuing operating excellence; developing renewable and nuclear energy.
Not only are there goals but also results. The Group’s net efficient capacity at December 2010 amounted to 97,281 MW. This generation allowed a total net electricity production in 2010 that was more than 290,2 TWh.
Thanks to 1,810,950 km of lines in two continents, the Group’s distribution companies convey electricity to over 59 million end consumers in Italia, Romania, Spain and Portugal and Latin America. In 2010, 430.5 TWh of electricity were conveyed on the Enel Group’s distribution network in 2010, of which 245.9 TWh in Italy and 184.6 TWh abroad.
last update 19/07/2011
In 2010 the Enel Group sold 309 TWh of electricity, an increase of 21 TWh (+ 7.3%) compared with 2009. Gas sales to end customers amounted to 8.9 billion cubic meters, a 15.6% increase over 2009 levels.
Regarding economic results, revenues in 2010 amounted to 73,377 million euros, with an increase of 9,015 million euros (+14.0%) over 2009 levels. The positive change was due to the growth of revenue from electricity sales abroad, as well as the change in the method of consolidating the subsidiary Endesa (from proportional to total), which took place at the end of June 2009 following the acquisition of the additional 25.01% of this company’s share capital.
EBITDA (gross operating margin) in 2010 amounted to 17,480 million euro, an increase of 1,109 million euros (+6.8%) with respect to 2009 ensuing from the growth of operations abroad, which also gained benefits from the aforesaid total consolidation of Endesa’s results.
EBIT (operating income) amounted to 11,258 million euros in 2010, with an increase of 226 million euros (+2.0%) compared with 2009.
The Group’s 2010 net result amounted to 4,390 million euros, compared to the 5,586 million euros of the previous year (-21.4%). This difference was caused by the fact that the positive operating results were more than offset by the increased net financial expense connected with both the change in the method of consolidating Endesa and the decrease in financial gains, which in 2009 profited from an extraordinary gain amounting to 970 million euros.
The Group’s ordinary 2010 net income for the year was 4,405 million euros, an increase of 208 million euros (+5.0%) compared with the 4,197 million euros of 2009. The investment carried out in 2010 amounted to 7,090 million euros (including 6,375 million euros regarding buildings, plants, and equipment), with an increase of 265 million euros compared with 2009.
