Fight against corruption

Fight against corruption

Companies are required to oppose corruption in all forms, including extortion and bribes”. This is one of the principles of Global Compact, the action program sponsored by the United Nations in 2000. Enel respects it rigorously in order to fulfill the conditions of integrity and transparency in conducting company affairs and activities, defending its position and image, the expectations of the shareholders and all other Group stakeholders, and the work of its employees.

For this reason, in June 2006, the Board of Directors approved the adoption of the Zero Tolerance of Corruption(TZC) Plan. The ZTC Plan neither replaces nor overlaps with the Code of Ethics and the Compliance Program pursuant to Legislative Decree 231/01, but represents a more radical step regarding the subject of corruption and adopts a series of recommendations for implementing the principles established by Transparency International.

The Plan aims at:

  • education of legality andemployee responsibility;
  • articulate Enel’s membership in the Global Compact,
  • join the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI), which was sponsored by the World Economic Forum of Davos in 2005.

Specifically, all organizational structures, within their sphere of responsibility, are responsible for preparing adequate control and monitoring systems to allow for an effective risk management process.

Furthermore, corruption risk analysis and supervision are part of the more general Group risk assessment process, which is periodically carried out by the Audit Department.
