1- Which principles inspire Enel’s social responsibility’s policy?

 Value generation, climate change combat, dialogue with the communities in which it operates, safety for people who work at and with Enel. These are the priorities that guide the Company, with the aim of ensuring a better future to coming generations, as well as environmental protection and people’s safety, supplying accessible, affordable and sustainable energy.

2- How does Enel commit to achieve sustainable development?

Enel has grown and has become a multinational, still keeping in mind that development must be combined with corporate responsibility. Therefore the Group commits to strengthen a system based on the highest transparency and fairness standards in corporate management, ensuring safety for whoever is involved in its activities, while respecting personal “value”. Enel’s commitment entails increasing significantly electricity generation with zero emission technologies, thus abating the environmental impact of its activities, improved performances, developing resource recovery and reuse projects, also investing in innovative research and in the best available technologies.

3-What are the main features of the Sustainability Report?

Through the Sustainability Report, Enel gives account to stakeholders of its performance regarding economic, social and environmental activities. The document illustrates values and principles that guide the Group, as well as activities, results, and objectives that have been or will be achieved, best performances and areas of improvement, in compliance with commitments and obligations towards all stakeholders. Since 2006, Enel has been applying the guidelines drawn up by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI-G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines).

4- How does Enel deal with its Stakeholders and with their expectations?

 The kind of initiatives promoted with regard to stakeholders is the result of proactive listening to their requests during the assiduous occasions for discussion arranged within the Company by the units in charge of relations with specific stakeholders in order to overcome prejudices and the misalignment of information in a perspective of stakeholder engagement. Indeed, shareholders, contractors, customers, providers, local and national communities in which Enel operates, environmental associations and future generations are central for the Group’s activities.

5- Which principles guide Enel’s environmental policy and climate strategy?

 Environmental protection, worker health and safety, improvement of environmental and product quality standards, creation of corporate value: the Group’s environmental policy is based on these three principles. Furthermore, Enel acknowledges its responsibilities and is committed to fighting climate change, because it is convinced that the improvement of environmental performances will help safeguard the Earth’s balance and will increase the Group’s opportunity to create value.

6- How does Enel carry out its environmental commitment?

Enel invests in the best available thermal power technologies, increasing the use of zero emission sources like renewables and nuclear power and investing in the development of energy efficiency. Research and development regarding carbon capture and storage and renewable technological innovations are essential for the development of the Group’s activities.  

7-Does Enel always perform an assessment of environmental risks?

Constantly seeking to achieve the best possible environmental performance, Enel launched a project to define a methodology for the evaluation of the environmental risks associated to its activities - except for nuclear technologies - including power generation, distribution assets and environmental governance. Starting from 2010 the methodology has been applied to Enel and Endesa plants in order to identify and treat the risks through a global and coordinated approach.

8- Which measures does Enel adopt to protect the health and safety of its employees and how does it invest in their enhancement?

Personal health and safety are essential and unrenounceable values that distinguish the culture of the Enel Group. The Group Divisions and companies started a process of equipping themselves with Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems in keeping with the OHSAS 18001 international standard. In 2020 the Company also continued the process of certifying these systems according to the BS OHSAS 18001 standard. Furthermore, in 2010 programmes were launched to improve safety standards and achieve excellence in this field, aimed at reaching the “Zero accidents” goal. At Enel, personal development is entrusted to the Personal Leadership and Expert Leadership units. Also, feedback, global assessment and coaching processes are carried out to this end.

9- What about its customers?

Enel’s Market Division regularly monitors customer satisfaction and needs  through the traditional instruments of the Customer relationship Management (CRM). Through the monthly results of the customer satisfaction survey, together with an analysis of requests, it is possible to monitor the way customers perceive services. The various projects that Enel has launched to satisfy the needs of its customers include the Smart Meter, Smart grids and electric vehicles.

10- How is Enel’s commitment acknowledged by the financial sector?

For the eight year in a row, Enel was included in the prestigious Dow Jones sustainability indexes. Also, ethical funds trust Enel and in March 2011 they accounted for more than 13% of its institutional shareholder base. In addition, in 2012 Enel was admitted once more in the  FTSE4Good index

11- How does Enel express its commitment to the communities in which it operates and to the defense of human rights?

In order to harmonize procedures for comparison and instances coming from different stakeholders, Enel has enacted a new organization and team work. The CSR and Relations with Associations Unit systematically consults with the associations representing segments such as consumers, environmentalists, small and medium enterprises, local authorities.
With regard to the defense of human rights, Enel avoids any kind of discrimination based on age, gender, sexual preferences, health, race, nationality, political opinions or beliefs, thus ensuring the implementation of the principles under the Code of Ethics and Legislative Decree 231.
