Shareholders and Investors
Enel’s shareholding structure includes:
- the Ministry of Economy and Finance accounting for31.2%,
- Institutional Investors accounting for 37.0%,
- Retail Investors accounting for 31.8%.
Socially responsible investors (SRI) are among the Group’s main institutional investors: in December 2010, 61 ethical funds owned about 17% of the shares held by institutional investors, that is, around 5% of all Enel shares in circulation. These funds form a stable share holding structure over time, with a highly diversified geographical presence in continental Europe, Great Britain and North America.
The significant presence of ethical funds in Enel’s share holding structure is due to the Company’s constant attention to Corporate Social Responsibility issues: in 2010 about 50 requests from ethical funds asking for information were dealt with. During 2010 the activities of Investor Relations registered significant growth compared with the previous year. Approximately 550 meetings were held with Institutional Investors, and about 467 requests from retail shareholders, asking for information, were answered.
