ENEL GREEN POWER BEGINS CONSTRUCTION WORKS IN CHILE ON ITS LARGEST SOLAR PARK
Diego de Almagro, with an installed capacity of 36 MW, will be able to generate up to 80 GWh
Rome, November 25th, 2013 Enel Green Power (EGP) has begun construction works at Diego de Almagro, its first photovoltaic plant in Chile.
The plant, named after the Atacama Region district in which it is located, 950 km north of Santiago, will have a total installed capacity of 36 MW. The photovoltaic park will be composed of about 225 thousand, mostly thin-film, modules manufactured at the Catania factory of 3Sun, the equal joint venture between EGP, Sharp and STMicroelectronics.
Once fully up and running, the Diego de Almagro plant will be able to generate up to 80 GWh per year, equal to the consumption requirements of around 45 thousand Chilean households, thereby avoiding the emission of more than 50 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Construction of the new plant will require a total investment of approximately 60 million US dollars.
The project is supported by a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The energy generated will be delivered to the Chilean central region transmission network (SIC), through the Diego de Almagro substation, some 3 km away from the plant.
In Chile, in the wind sector, Enel Green Power has recently connected the Talinay wind farm (90 MW) to the grid, is completing work on its wind farm in Valle de los Vientos (90 MW) and has started construction works at its Tal Tal wind farm (99 MW) last August. In the geothermal sector, the Company expects to begin construction soon on the first geothermal plant in the entire Southern Cone, in the Atacama desert, at an altitude of 4,400 meters. EGP is also exploring various concessions in the geothermal sector that have the potential for generating more than 100 MW.

In Chile, in particular, the company is exploring several concessions with a potential capacity exceeding 100 MW.
