Enel in the World
Today Enel is an international Group producing and distributing electricity and gas in 22 countries on 4 continents.
The most important companies in the Group are Enel, the largest energy company in Italy, Endesa, the leader on the Iberian peninsula and in South America, OGK-5 in Russia, Slovenské Elektrárne in Slovakia, and Enel Energie, Enel Distributie Dobrogea and Enel Distributie Banat in Romania, Maritza in Bulgaria, Enel North America in USA and Canada, Enel Latin America in South America.
Its installed capacity and number of customers are respectively about 76,000 MW and 50 million of families and firms.
Among the utilities listed in Europe, Enel is the second largest in terms of installed capacity and, with about 1.9 million of them, the largest in terms of number of shareholders. It also ranks among the largest utilities in the world in terms of market capitalization.
Its portfolio of generating plants is characterized by a balanced fuel mix and has a large percentage of renewable sources (about 30% of the total), which are continually increasing in North, Central, and South America. In particular, Enel is the world leader in geothermy.
