Enel is present in the USA and Canada with the subsidiary Enel North America, Inc. (Enel NA).

Enel NA is one of the major operators in the generation of electricity from renewable sources: biomass, wind energy, hydroelectric power and now geothermal energy. Enel manage projects in 17 US States. The first acquisitions date back to 2000 and, today Enel owns a total capacity of 420 MW.

New important perspectives of developement are expected in 2008: Enel NA recently sealed an agreement with Trade Wind Energy to develop more than 1,000 MW in Wind power generation. In 2007 Enel NA entered the geothermal market with the acquisition of AMP Resource, a company with geothermal projects in California, Utah and Nevada for approximately 150 MW, equal to an annual requirement of approximately 100,000 US families.

Enel NA is also involved in Emissions reductions credits Project with a particural focus on Geothermal Energy.
