Romania
In Romania Enel currently operates in the electricity distribution sector, after
acquiring the majority stake of two distribution companies, as result of a privatization
process initiated by the Romanian Government in 2004.
With regard to Unbundling, Enel implemented in July 2007 a new structure for Romanian
operations: Enel Energie is the company that sales electricity
to all categories of clients across Romania, while Enel Distribuţie Banat,
South West of Romania and Enel Distribuţie Dobrogea, South East
of Romania, are the two companies managing the electricity network in the two regions.
In June 2008, further to the completion of the acquisition of Electrica Muntenia
Sud, the sole electricity distributor for consumers in Bucharest, Enel doubles its
presence in the Romanian power distribution sector, reaching about 2.5 million customers,
93,000 km of network, and 5,700 employees.
