Renewable sources

Enel is an active player in the world market for renewable energy sources, with the full awareness that these sources are an instrument to make the productive system more competitive, make the supply of energy safer and to safeguard the environment.

Currently we are among the world level players in the sector, running plants that use water, wind, sun and natural heat from the earth for over 19,000 MW, of which 15,300 MW are in Italy and 4,000 MW in other countries. In particular we have unique expertise in geothermal, hydroelectric and photovoltaic energy and are making very strong developments in wind power.

We are committed to research and innovation, convinced that these are the fundamental instruments to guarantee a growth rate of these sources that conforms with the European targets.

For the next five years we have worked out a significant growth plan, which will increase the capacity installed by renewable sources by about 1,700 MW in the world. We plan to invest over 3,3 billion euros, equally distributed between Italy and the rest of the world. Moreover, Enel intends to invest in developing innovative projects, experimenting new technologies that use the forces of wind, sun and earth materials We are looking with particular attention at avant garde solutions to make the sector more competitive. To this end we have identified medium and long term projects which will straightaway make it possible to apply consolidated technologies and also create the conditions to experiment and actually implement the most advanced solutions that the research suggests.

This is a very concrete way of confirming our leadership in renewable sources and reaching ever improving environmental standards. That is, to contribute to a better world.
