Enel’s operations centres and cutting-edge testing facilities play a key role in the development of sustainable energy production; it’s a research programme that has been 30 years in the making, and one that makes Enel an industry leader.
The headquarters of Enel’s research operations is here, in Pisa, from where all Research & Development activities are co-ordinated. As well as that, The Tuscan city is home to various programmes - such as the development of combustion technology and research into diagnostics, automation, new generation and conversion systems - that each have the aim of reducing emissions harmful to the environment.
Here the work focuses on the assessment of soil, subsoil and groundwater conditions, as well as site decontamination and redevelopment, plant environment and landscape integration. The site is also home to research into reuse of waste produced by more traditional methods of energy generation and how to get the most out of local renewable energy sources.
Sicily is home to Enel’s research into solar and photovoltaic (PV solar) energy, which are some of the company’s most important projects.
Located in Livorno, Sesta, Santa Gilla and Marghera, these sites are where laboratory work is followed up on, and where tests are carried out to see whether ideas can be used on an industrial scale.
