Enel’s experimental areas work together with the Research Centres in the testing of new ideas and processes, helping us to stay at the forefront of renewable energy development.
The Livorno site has small and medium-sized trial facilities, which focus on studying and testing flame aerodynamics, combustion and fume treatment. New fuels for industrial scale burners are trialled in experimental furnaces used for combustion tests, while characterisation of industrial spray is carried out at a liquid fuels atomisation plant. The treatment of gaseous effluents is analysed in facilities designed for the study of catalytic denitrification, wet and dry desulphurisation and the capture of particulates.
Operating since 1996 in the town of Radicondoli (Siena), Sesta is one of the world’s most advanced experimental stations for gas turbines, and where the testing of gas turbines - powered by traditional and alternative fuels - is carried out. Sesta has passed the ISO 9001 certification, meaning that tests can be conducted with quality guaranteed; that’s why the facility is at the moment performing trials for Siemens-Westinghouse, General Electric and Ansaldo Energia.
