Rome, September 22nd, 2010 Enel received the Ethics and Enterprise Prize at RavelloFestival 2010 in the "Sustainable Development" category.
Now in its fourth edition, the award is aimed at companies that, through agreements, projects and reports, have contributed during the year to sustaining the culture of ethical values.
Enel, which was also a finalist in the categories "Corporate Social Responsibility" and "Workplace Health and Safety" (for which Enel was also awarded honourable mention for its International Safety Week project and the joint discussion of safety issues with its European Works Council), received the prize for the agreement on the establishment of the Enel Industrial, Environmental and Employment Policies Observatory signed last April by the Enel CEO and the Secretary Generals of the CGIL, CISL and UIL unions and the industry federations. The body is a forum for discussion of the strategic choices of Enel, investment, employment levels, the development of renewable sources and the promotion of studies and research.
With this agreement, which was signed with the unions in conjunction with the Protocol on Corporate Social Responsibility at Enel, the company confirmed the tradition of dialogue with workers' representatives in a climate of transparency and respect. It marked an important step in agreeing the principles and actions that make Enel an international benchmark in Corporate Social Responsibility.
Every day, Enel undertakes to develop, disseminate and embed its distinctive values and culture throughout the organization, to reconcile profitability, respect for the environment, social responsibility, workplace safety and a focus on results and improvement.
For the seventh year in a row, Enel has been admitted to the prestigious Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index and to the select Dow Jones World Index. The latter index includes just 10% of the 2,500 largest companies in the world, those that top the rankings for sustainability. According to SAM Dow Jones, Enel is also the Sustainability Leader for Italy in the electricity sector. Endesa, the Enel Group's Spanish subsidiary, has also had its place in the Dow Jones indexes confirmed.
