Enel carries out its operations in close contact with the natural environment and as such is exposed to the risk of financial and criminal sanctions, damages claims and compensation, as well as reputational losses and damage to company image, due to industrial accidents that impact on the natural environment. To minimize these risks, Enel has created a process for the identification, quantitative measure and management of environmental risks.

Through risk assessment activities, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, it is possible to reduce the likelihood of damages to the environment, avoid legal sanctions and guarantee quality of life for the communities in which Enel operates.

The Group's environmental risk management system allows the assessment, for each type of plant and each raw material potentially used, of each type of environmental risk, in order to evaluate the need for mitigation actions and the extent of their efficacy in terms of cost/risk reduction.
