The partnership between Endesa and the Spanish Basketball Federation is embarking on a new chapter with the Basket Lover 2014 Schools Programme, a competition for primary and secondary school students taking place in the six Spanish cities (Bilbao, Barcelona, ??Madrid, Seville, Granada, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) that will host the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The competition has been divided into two categories: drawing and photography. The schools taking part in the programme will choose their students' best works, while a jury composed of basketball legends and institutional representatives will select two winners from each host city.
These winners will be rewarded with free tickets to World Cup matches, a signed jersey and the opportunity to attend professional training sessions. Each category's winning school will be determined by popular vote on social media and will win €3,000 worth of school supplies, an award that offers further proof of Endesa's commitment to sport and culture.
Endesa's ties with Spanish Basketball began in 2011 with its sponsorship of the professional basketball league, currently known as the Endesa League. Since 2012, the Enel-owned company has also been the main sponsor of all Spanish national basketball teams.
The partnership also features an action plan aimed at encouraging solidarity through sport culture. In 2012, Endesa and the Spanish Basketball Association held the first Solidarity Day, in which a full day of Spanish league matches was dedicated to supporting a special social project. The first Solidarity Day promoted UNICEF's efforts to fight child malnutrition, while funds raised during the same event last year went to the Red Cross and its food collection campaign for the needy.
