Coelcehas been named the best electricity distribution company in Brazil for CorporateSocial Responsibilityby the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (Abradee) during the recent 16thedition of the Abradee Awards.
The Enel Group subsidiary received, along with Elektro, first place in Corporate Social Responsibility Policies for the third consecutive year. It was also handed third place in Abradee's overall standings and fifth in the Customer Ratingcategory.
The Abradee Award is the second important award won by Coelce in 2014. In March the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency(Aneel) awarded the company first place for best service quality among electricity distribution companies in Brazil.
The new award, said Coelce's president Abel Rochinhaat the Abradee Awards ceremony in Brasilia, 'has once again confirmed our commitment to customers and to the company.'
Last year Coelce invested 19.6 million Brazilian Reals (approximately $8.8 million) in the country's social and environment projects, from which one and a half million people benefited. Of this investment, 8.4 million Brazilian Reals have been used to spread a culture of energy efficiency: 46,667 families participated in educational projects regarding a sustainable, safe and rational use of electricity, as well the replacement of refrigerators and light bulbs with more efficient versions.
Corporate Social Responsabilityis an important part of the Enel Group's strategy. In 2013 it was admitted to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which ranks the best companies in the world according to strict economic, social and environmental criteria, and was confirmed in the FTSE4Good, which measures the performance of companies in terms of environmental sustainability, respect for human rights, relations with stakeholders, the quality of working conditions and the fight against corruption.
