Leaders from all over the world will meet to take stock of progress on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for the planet’s sustainable development exactly three years on from its adoption. The United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit 2018 will take place on 24 September at the UN headquarters in New York. The event, which is held during the opening session of the UN General Assembly, brings together prominent figures from the business world, politics and civil society and will be streamed live. The business leaders include Enel CEO and General Manager, Francesco Starace, who will participate in the Private Sector Forum on peace (“Building and Investing in Peace for All”) as will the UN Secretary General António Guterres. The panel will discuss ways in which the private sector and investors can contribute to building increasingly peaceful and stable societies by strengthening public-private partnerships. In June 2018 Francesco Starace was reappointed to the Board of the Global Compact for a second mandate (2018-2021), while Enel has been a GC member since 2004.
At the Leaders Summit our Group will be at the heart of another appointment, the CEO Roundtable, at which Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Green Power, will discuss human rights and inequality with leaders from the worlds of business, finance, politics and civil society at a session entitled “Closing the Inequality Gap: Human Rights as a Driver for Successful Business.”
