ENEL SETS UP A PARTNERSHIP WITH A TURKISH COMPANY TO UNDERGO THE ELECTRICITY MARKET S PRIVATIZATION

  • The Turkish market represents a key area in Enel’s international footprint


Rome and Istanbul, 4 December, 2006 – Today Enel announced that a partnership with Enka, the Turkish conglomerate, has been signed. The co-operation between the two companies is aimed at developing and completing projects in the generation, distribution and sale of electricity in Turkey.
As a first step of their co-operation Enel and Enka will jointly participate in the privatization process of the existing electricity distribution companies the Turkish government is undertaking.

The joint venture company will submit a joint binding offer for the acquisition of the full capital of the first 3 companies in the process of being privatized Ayedas, Baskent and Sedas.

Ayedas provides electricity to 1.9 million customers in the Istanbul Asian region. The company sells 6,315 GWh with a market share of about 7% on the total Turkish electricity sales.
Baskent provides electricity to 2.8 million customers in the central western Anatolia region, including Ankara area. The company sells 8,041 GWh, with a market share of about 10% of the total Turkish electricity sales.  
Sedas provides electricity to 1.3 million customers in the north western Anatolia region, situated between Istanbul and Ankara regions. The company sells 4,134 GWh, representing about 4% of the total Turkish electricity sales. 

The deadline for submitting a bidding offer to the Turkish Privatization Administration is January 19, 2007.
