ENELPOWER UNIT SIGNS FINANCING CONTRACT WITH BNDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 1,095 KM POWER LINE IN BRAZIL

Rome, October 28, 2002 – TSN (Transmissora Sudeste Nordeste), which is 98,2% controlled by Enelpower, signed a financing contract with Brazil’s Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) for the construction and operation of a 1,095 km High Voltage interconnection power line in Brazil. The project financing is for a sum of up to 556 million Real (about 150 million Euro) to be repaid within 2016.. TSN was awarded the contract on August 31, 2000, by ANEEL (Agencia Nacional de Energia Electrica) for a 30 year concession to build and manage the line that will link the Brazilian States of Goias and Bahia. The project, which also includes the construction of five 500 / 230 KV substations, will have a total cost of around 850 million Real (about 230 million Euro) The project and construction of the line were carried out by Enelpower and by its subsidiary Enelpower do Brasil. Works should be concluded by the end of December and the line should go into operation early next year. Enelpower, the Enel Group’s engineering company, is the Italian leader in Engineering and Contracting for electricity generation. The company is currently involved in the construction and conversion into combined cycle of plants for Enel Produzione, Endesa Italia, Edipower, AEM Milano, ASM Brescia. As well as South America , Enelpower is present in Europe, Africa and the Middle East (Saudia Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman) where it active in the construction of large thermo-electric power plants (both conventional and combined cycle). Its current portfolio, which has a value of over 3.6 billion Euro, includes 15,000 MW of thermo-electric and hydro-electric power plants, and about 2,800 km of high tension power lines.
