ENEL: QUALITY CERTIFICATION FOR SOLID FUEL LOGISTICS

Enel’s system for loading and unloading coal, gypsum and lime has been judged in conformity with the advanced ISO 9001:2000 standard.

Rome, 11 April 2006 – The Registro Italiano Navale, in its capacity as a member of the IQNet international certification network, has issued the ISO 9001:2000 certification to Enel’s Thermal Generation business area for its quality management system for the “secondary logistics” of solid fuels.

The certification gives Enel a prestigious international “quality mark” for its loading and unloading operations involving solid bulk materials – coal, lime and gypsum produced as part of emissions abatement processes to remove sulphur oxides – at Enel’s Italian terminals.

The certification covers the fuel movement units at the thermal power plants of La Spezia, Genoa, Fusina and Porto Marghera (Venice), Brindisi and Portovesme (Cagliari), and the Rome unit in charge of coordinating all secondary logistics activity.

They employ a total of 325 specialized staff, who each year handle the reception and unloading of more than 320 ships and the movement of some 11 million tons of coal within the power stations.
