ENEL: WIND FARM AGREEMENTS SIGNED IN UNITED STATES AND CANADA

Projects with an overall capacity of up to 250 MW and further 27MW will be developed in Kansas, United States and Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada respectively.

This operation is part of a 4 billion euros investment plan aimed at placing Enel at the forefront of research for innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact in electricity generation and distribution.

Once operational, these new plants will avoid the emission of 415,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Rome, 5 January, 2007 - Enel, through its subsidiary Enel North America Inc., signed agreements for the development of two wind farms in the United States and Canada and the supply of the electricity they will generate.  The two plants have an overall capacity of up to 250MW and 27MW respectively.

This operation is part of a 4 billion euros investment plan aimed at placing Enel at the forefront of research for innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact in electricity generation and distribution.

When the projects start operating, they will collectively avoid the emission of 415,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Smoky Hills Project, Kansas (USA)

Enel North America, Inc. and Tradewind Energy, LLC, under their strategic partnership signed in September 2006, executed two agreements to produce and sell wind power for the Smoky Hills area in Kansas, USA.
 
Smoky Hills will be built in multiple phases with the first 100.8 MW phase scheduled to be built and operational by the end of 2007. When completed, Smoky Hills is expected to total up to 250 MW.

Enel North America, Inc. has already entered a turbine procurement contract with the Danish company Vestas for the delivery of 56 V80 wind turbines for the Smoky Hills project. Each turbine has a capacity of 1.8 megawatts.
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation has agreed to purchase 50.4 MW of the Smoky Hills Phase I project’s capacity. An additional 25.2 MW of capacity from Phase I will be purchased by the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities of Kansas City, Kansas.


St. Lawrence Project, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

NeWind Group, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enel North America, Inc., signed a power purchase agreement with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) to build, operate and sell power from the 27 MW St Lawrence wind project.

In early October, Hydro announced that the company had been selected through a competitive bidding process to finalize a power purchase agreement for the first utility scale wind project in the province.

The St. Lawrence wind project is expected to generate approximately 100,000 MWh per year and to be operating by the end of 2008.
