With an installed capacity of 34 MW, the Agighiol wind farm will be able to generate around 100 million kWh, thus meeting the energy needs of over 35,000 households and avoiding the emission of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Bucarest, December 6th, 2010 – Today, Enel Green Power commenced operation of its first wind farm in Romania, the “Agighiol” plant located in Valea Nucarilor municipality, close to Tulcea city.

The new wind farm consists of 17 turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each, for a total installed capacity of 34 MW.  With an annual production of around 100 million kWh, it will be able to meet the energy needs of over 35,000 households while avoiding the emission of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

“With this first wind farm we see the start of Enel Green Power’s generation capacity in Romania”  stated Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power. “We have a good list of projects that are entering the construction phase, and will substantially increase our presence in the country in the next two years.”

Wind power is the most promising renewable technology in the Romanian power sector. The country’s installed wind capacity is set to reach 600 MW by 2010, from 14 MW at the end of 2009. Such capacity is expected to total about 3,600 MW by 2015.
