Rome, August 30th, 2011 - Enel Green Power’s Kouloukonas wind farm, located in  Rethimnon in the Island of Crete in Greece has become fully operational, bringing the Group’s total installed capacity in the country to 186 MW.

The wind farm is composed of 6 wind turbines of 0,85 MW each for a total installed capacity of 5 MW, and is expected to produce approximately 9,5 million kWh annually, therefore meeting the energy needs of 2,300 households. The clean electricity generated by the plant will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 10.500 tonnes CO2 per year.

"Greece is actually showing a high level of interest in the renewable sector," commented Francesco Starace, Enel Green Power CEO. “We are pursuing further growth as well as strengthening our position in this country through an additional 40 MW wind, hydro and photovoltaic projects in execution."

Enel Green Power is already widely present in the Greek renewables' sector. EGP's wind farms with total capacity of 172 MW are mainly located in Thrace, but also in Macedonia, Peloponnese, Evia, Crete and Dodecanese islands. In addition, EGP operates small hydro power plants in Central Greece, Western Greece and Thessaly for a total installed capacity of 14 MW.
