Rome, 30th August 2012 - Enel Green Power (EGP) has completely connected the new Moldova Noua wind farm in the Banat region of Romania to the grid.
The fully operational plant, comprised of 21 2.3 MW SWT wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 48MW, 25MW of which have been online since December of last year, will be capable of generating some 130 million kilowatt hours, thus avoiding the emission of over 70 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
For Moldova Noua and the Corugea wind farm, which is also in Romania, EGP obtained 112 million euros in funding last year from the Danish governments Export Credit Agency (EKF) to cover part of the investments necessary for the building of the two plants. EKF carries out activities at the institutional level to support components manufacturers in Denmark, which EGP has utilized during the construction of the two plants.
We are moving forward with our strategy of strengthening our renewable energy output in Romania, stated Francesco Starace, Enel Green Power CEO. The commencement of operations at Moldova Noua, entirely within the timeframe we had set, is an important step in this direction.
Currently, EGP has wind farms totalling 292 MW operating in Romania (including the new Moldova Noua plant), and it has others under construction totalling 206 MW.
The Enel Group has been present in Romania since 2005, and is now the leading private investor in the electricity sector with about 4,500 employees and a 90,000 km network that serves some 14 million customers.
