ENEL GREEN POWER BRINGS NEW PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT ONLINE IN CHILE

With an installed capacity of 18 MW, Lalackama II is capable of generating approx. 50 GWh per year.

Rome, May 5th, 2015 – Enel Green Power has completed and connected to the grid the Lalackama II solar photovoltaic plant, in the Antofagasta Region of Chile.

With a total capacity of 18 MW, the new plant is capable of generating approximately 50 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual power consumption needs of around 23,000 Chilean households, therefore avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of around 23,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Lalackama II is supported by a contract to supply energy to private customers. The power generated by the plant will be delivered to Chile’s central region transmission network (Sistema Interconnectado Central, SIC).

The facility is located near the 60 MW Lalackama I photovoltaic plant, which entered into service at the end of 2014. Together, the two plants will be able to generate more than 210 GWh a year.

In Chile, Enel Green Power runs the Talinay Oriente, Valle de los Vientos, Taltal and Talinay Poniente wind farms, which have an overall installed capacity of 340 MW, as well as the Diego de Almagro (36 MW), Lalackama I (60 MW) and Chañares (40 MW) solar power facilities. In addition, the company has recently began construction of the Carrera Pinto (97 MW) and Pampa Norte (79 MW) solar photovoltaic facilities. The company also runs the Pullinque and Pilmaiquen hydropower plants, which have an overall installed capacity of 92 MW. The Group is also active in the geothermal sector, where it is exploring a number of concessions that have a potential installed capacity of over 100 MW.

Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company fully dedicated to the international development and management of renewable energy sources, with operations in Europe, the Americas and Africa. With an annual generation capacity equal to approximately 32 billion kWh from water, sun, wind and the Earth’s heat – enough to meet the energy needs of more than 10 million households – Enel Green Power is a world leader in the sector thanks to its well-balanced generation mix that provides generation volumes well over the sector average. As of today, the company has an installed capacity of approximately 9,600 MW from a mix of sources including wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal and biomass. The company has about 740 plants operating in 15 countries.
