ENEL ADMITTED TO THE A-LIST OF THE CARBON DISCLOSURE PROJECT

The A-list of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) includes companies that, around the world, stand out for the effectiveness of their strategy for seizing the opportunities and managing the risks of climate change

The score for inclusion in the index also takes account of the comprehensiveness and transparency of the information on greenhouse gas emissions provided by the companies

Rome, October 25th, 2016 – Enel has been admitted to the exclusive A-list of the Carbon Disclosure Project, the index most widely used by sustainable finance to guide investors towards companies who have demonstrated the greatest awareness of climate change issues. This prestigious award was presented today at the CDP Italy Climate Leadership Awards held in Milan at the headquarters of Intesa Sanpaolo.

The A-list of the CDP includes the companies, selected from among some 2000 participants around the world, that stand out for the effectiveness of their strategy for seizing the opportunities and managing the risks of climate change. The score for inclusion in the index also takes account of the comprehensiveness and transparency of the information provided on greenhouse gas emissions. This year, admission to the A-list rewarded companies like Enel who have set binding targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to levels required by science (“science-based”).

Entry in the CDP index is a further major confirmation of Enel’s strategy in combating climate change and progressing towards a low-carbon economy, underscored by the Group’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

“Climate Change is perhaps the single most important challenge facing the world today. Enel’s inclusion in the A-list of the CDP is a further recognition of our positive contribution to addressing this key challenge. Our position within the United Nations Global Compact, where a wide range of sustainability issues are addressed with very concrete proposals, is another,” said Francesco Starace, Enel Group CEO. “This is a further reminder for the business world that a company’s sustainability strategy sits in close alignment with its industrial ambitions: in our case, technology innovation, development of renewables, increased efficiency in thermal generation business and digitalisation of the grid, also speak directly to tackling climate change.”

In addition to the Carbon Disclosure Project, the Enel Group is also included in other major sustainability indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World, the FTSE4Good and Euronext-Vigeo.

Climate change action is one of the four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, to which Enel is contributing, together with access to energy, education and boosting the socio-economic development of the communities in which the Group operates.
