Moscow/Rome, 29 August 2007 - Dominique Fache, 58, is Enels new Country Manager and Chief Operations Officer for Russia and CIS. Born in Northern France, with a degree in Engineering from the Sorbonne, he lived and worked in Russia for about 15 years from 1992 to 2006, first as Country Manager for the Schlumberger Group and then in the last three years as consultant and independent member on the boards of leading Russian energy companies.
Fache has spent his life and career between France and Russia, starting with a year studying in Moscow during university. Over the years, he has acquired excellent Russian language skills, forging high-level relationships in the government and business communities in both Western Europe and Russia.
At the start of his career, between 1972 and 1987, he participated in the creation and development of the Sophia Antipolis science park in Nice, serving as deputy director. He is still a director of what has become Frances leading research and development zone, which has attracted enterprises from a wide range of industries, employing more than 35,000 people.
After joining the Schlumberger Group in 1993, Fache was appointed Country Manager for Russia and the countries of the CIS, moving to St. Petersburg. This gave him the opportunity to acquire considerable experience in the energy sector and to expand his understanding of the Russian system, boosting Schlumbergers turnover in the country from a few tens of millions to 1.4 billion dollars.
Since 2003 Fache has been a consultant and independent member on the boards of major Russian energy companies. In 2001 he founded the Club de Nice, which organises a high-level forum for Europes energy leaders, a sort of Davos for the industry. Now, his skills and experience will be put to work to help strengthen Enels presence in Russia.
Enel in Russia
Enel has been in Russia since June 2004, operating (in partnership with ESN Energo, a local private-sector company) the North-West Thermal Power Plant of St. Petersburg, a combined-cycle gas plant with a capacity of 900 MW. Enel also acquired 49.5% of RusEnergoSbyt, which supplies electricity to Russias major companies, from the ESN Group. On 4 April 2007, Enel, acting through the Enineftgaz Consortium (in which Enel has a 40% stake and Eni 60%), won the tender for the acquisition of gas assets from Yukos.
Enel also owns 29.99% of OGK-5 (generation company no. 5).
