Resilience as the key to the energy future

The resilience of energy Grids is crucial for the transition to renewables and for addressing climate change. Grids, which are increasingly digital and flexible, must handle an increasing flow of energy from nonprogrammable sources, ensuring stability and security. However, extreme weather events, such as heat waves, storms, and floods, put these infrastructures under strain, increasing the risk of failure.

To support decarbonization, the length of Grids will need to double within the next 20 years, with global investment exceeding $600 billion by 2030. It is essential to modernize and strengthen Grids to make them resilient to new climate conditions, while supporting the increase in electricity consumption, projected at 60 percent by 2050.
