Smart home. Smart city
Using energy innovatively
How does the energy system know that my neighbour runs his washing machine while my solar panels produce more than I need?
We were the first utility company in the world to introduce 'smart meters' that monitor energy use in real time and are the basis for smarter grids and cities with more efficient energy distribution. By 2019, we will have installed 21 million of our next-generation smart meters and built new digital infrastructure for our markets and clients in advance of any other global provider.
We're building smart grids that are as intelligent as the Internet, grids that analyze consumption data in real time, manage distribution, transport renewable energy without limits and enable entirely new services for people, businesses and cities.
Next-generation smart meters let homeowners know exactly how much energy they're using so they can optimize their energy consumption. Improving digital technology helps them transform their houses into smart homes, where thermostats learn when you are at home, fridges cool when energy is cheapest, and lights switch off if no one is in the room.
"Improving digital technology helps homeowners make the best use of energy and cut costs whilst being kinder to the planet"
