ENEL UNION FENOSA RENOVABLES LAUNCHES TWO WIND FARMS IN SPAIN’S NORTH WEST

The new plants will supply 40,000 families and required an investment of 50 million euro

Rome/Madrid, 13 February 2004. Enel Union Fenosa Renovables today launched two new wind farms in Galicia, in Spain’s North West. The plants will produce enough energy to supply 40,000 families and required an investment of 50 million euro.

The inauguration follows the formation in December of EUFER by Enel SpA and Union Fenosa, a move which consolidates Enel’s world leadership in renewable energy and confirms Union Fenosa’s commitment to environmentally friendly energy production.

Wholly owned by EUFER, the two wind farms have a total installed capacity 50.7 MW and are located in Sierra de Pena Forcada and Cabo do Vilan.

Enel owns 80% of EUFER which consists entirely of plants and projects for the production of energy from renewable sources, predominantly wind and hydro. It includes 381 MW of installed capacity already in operation (counting the two new wind farms), 98 MW under construction, around 330 MW planned for the next four years (2004-2007) and around 880 MW of long term projects (2008-2012).

Notes to editors

Enel is one the world’s major electricity companies. It is Italy’s main operator with over 40,000 MW of installed capacity and is second in the distribution and sale of gas. In Italy it has about 28 million electricity customers and 1.7 million gas customers. In Spain it has a significant presence through its unit Viesgo (2,400MW), while it is the world leader in renewable energy with over 16,000 MW installed in Italy, Spain, North America and Latin America.

Union Fenosa is Spain’s third-largest energy company and currently has over 8,000 MW of installed capacity worldwide, supplying electricity to over 8 million customers. Its energy business is integrated due to its presence throughout the gas chain. Union Fenosa is also active in telecommunications, engineering, information systems and consulting.
