- Thanks to this agreement, Enel Green Power will further increase its presence in the promising Mexican renewable energy market.
Rome - Mexico City, December 3rd , 2009 - Enel Green Power, a unit of the Enel Group, through its subsidiary Enel Latin America, B.V., today announced a project development agreement with SoWiTec Energias Renovables de Mexico Ltda., an affiliate of the German developer SoWiTec international GmbH, to develop a number of wind power projects in Mexico for a total capacity of up to 1,000 MW.
Through this agreement, Enel Green Power will have exclusive access to wind power projects being developed by SoWiTec, as well as the right to acquire these projects once they are fully authorized. The projects are located in the states of Sonora, Coahuila, Aguascalientes, Tamaulipas y Veracruz with a preliminary capacity for each project ranging between 100 to 200 MW.
The Enel Groups company entered the Mexican power market in 2007 and there operates 3 hydro plants for a total installed capacity of 52 MW.
Enel Green Power can count on exclusive rights on a portfolio of wind projects with a total capacity of up to 2,000 MW, well distributed across the country and developed by two different companies: the German developer SoWiTec and the Spanish developer Enerthi.
Thanks to this agreement, Enel has further strengthened its position in the promising Mexican renewable energy market.
