ENEL GREEN POWER DOUBLES CAPACITY OF SERRE PERSANO PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT

Permission received to increase to 6.6 MW the installed capacity of this historic plant, built in 1993 and for a long time the largest solar plant in Europe.

Rome, February 9th, 2011 – Green light has been given to start works to double the capacity of Serre Persano, the first photovoltaic plant built by the Enel Group in Campania in 1993 and for a long time the largest solar plant in Europe.

The Campania Region has authorized the project to expand the installed capacity of the plant, which is located in the province of Salerno, from the current 3.3 MW to 6.6 MW.

Once the expansion project is completed, Serre Persano will be able to generate approximately 9 million kWh per year, enough to meet the annual consumption needs of 3,000 households, saving 2,000 TOE (tonnes of oil equivalent) in fossil fuels and avoiding the emission of 4,500 tons of CO2 per year.
